Beyoncé is being chastised by another artist who claims she didn't ask permission to use their classic for one of her songs off her Renaissance album.

According to a report The Sun published earlier this week, October 4, veteran pop band Right Said Fred referred to Beyoncé as "such an arrogant person" for not asking before she interpolated their 1991 hit "I'm Too Sexy" in her song "Alien Superstar." Brothers Richard and Fred Fairbass claimed the historic singer never directly approached them to ask permission the way Drake and Taylor Swift did in the past. In response, Beyoncé's team provided a different version of what actually happened.

"The comments made by Right Said Fred stating that Beyoncé used 'I’m Too Sexy' in 'Alien Superstar' without permission are erroneous and incredibly disparaging," a rep for Beyonce said in a statement. "Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album. For their song, there was no sound recording use, only the composition was utilized."

"Permission was asked of their publisher on May 11, 2022 and the publisher approved the use on June 15, 2022," the statement continued. "They were paid for the usage in August, 2022. Furthermore, the copyright percentage of the Right Said Fred writers with respect to the use of 'I’m Too Sexy' is a substantial portion of the composition. Collectively the Right Said Fred writers own more than any other singular writer and have co-writer credit. This accusation is false."

Right Said Fred appears to have been upset over the fact that Beyoncé's song has 22 writers attached to it. Even with them listed as writers, they complained that they're making less than other records that sample their song.

"To use our melody they need our permission so they send us the demo and we approve it and if so we get a co-write credit," the duo said. "With this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers it’s ridiculous so we would get about 40p."

Right Said Fred is the latest artist that has made claims against Beyoncé since her album dropped in July. Kelis also called out the singer for using parts of "Milkshake" in "Energy." Bey responded by removing the sample from the album.
